Rock Outcroppings
Along the fall line where the Roanoke tumbles from the Piedmont to the Coastal Plain, the river cascades over rock and walled chutes. Rocky outcroppings serve as mid-river islands for vegetation and animals.

You can find this habitat near Weldon. It has become a favorite spot for whitewater playboats and is one of only a few whitewater areas in the eastern (east of Raleigh) part of North Carolina.
