Welcome to Jamesville ~ the home of the Annual
Jamesville is a small rural town located on the eastern end of Martin
County with a population of 484. The Town received its municipal charter
on December 29, 1785 being only the second town in Martin County at that
time to be incorporated.
Today, Jamesville has several local businesses that are open on a daily
basis. Services offered range from grills serving hot foods daily to a
local sandwich shop, car dealership/repair, plant house, manufacturing,
consignment shop, gas station and two restaurants that are opened only
during the spring of the year. The town has an Elementary School and a
prestigious Middle School that has earned the Blue Ribbon of School of
Excellence Award several years in a row.
The Annual Herring Festival, held during Easter weekend, has gathered
crowds for over 64 years to town. An event that originally began to
celebrate an overwhelming abundance of herring in the Roanoke River has
held strong over the years. The Cypress Grill and River's Edge are two
restaurants located on the Roanoke River that are known for selling hot
fresh herring plates during the spring of the year.
The Roanoke River runs adjacent to the Town. NC Wildlife recently
completed a new boat landing along side of a wooden walkway that
overlooks the river. Boating, camping, fishing, and wildlife sightings
are just a few of the activities that can be enjoyed on this pristine
river, one of the finest on the east coast!
The Town of Jamesville welcomes all to come and enjoy the home town
warmth that makes all small communities unique and special!
